About Te Paetahi Akoranga – Bachelor of Teaching (ECE)

Te Paetahi Akoranga – Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) is a Tiriti-informed initial teacher education programme that prepares ākonga to become skilled, reflective, and culturally grounded early childhood kaiako. Rooted in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and informed by both te ao Māori and te ao Pākehā, the programme emphasises ako (reciprocal learning), whanaungatanga (relationships), and manaakitanga (care).

Through a combination of academic study and professional practice, ākonga engage deeply with the theory and practice of ECE. The programme encourages critical reflection, collaborative learning, and strong connections with whānau, hapū, iwi, and the wider ECE community. Graduates leave not only as qualified teachers, but as committed advocates for tamariki, equity, and culturally responsive teaching in Aotearoa.
