As the leader of Wintec's Communications, Marketing, Brand and Student Recruitment functions, you'll shape how Wintec is seen, understood and chosen — strengthening our market position, reputation and growth.
You'll develop and deliver an integrated strategy that brings *Te Ara Whai Hua – Path to Success* to life, sharpens our brand and narrative, drives student demand, and keeps us communicating clearly and confidently with the audiences who matter most to us.
You’ll provide trusted strategic communications, marketing and public relations advice to the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership Team and senior managers, particularly on strategic and reputational matters
Leading and developing our Communications and Marketing team, you'll take ownership of people leadership, performance and budget, while playing an active part in Wintec's wider senior leadership community.
The appointing salary for this role will be between $160,000 to $175,000 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.
The Director – Communications and Marketing is based in our Communications and Marketing team, reporting to the Executive Director – Ākonga Success and Experience, and will be responsible for:
· Lead the strategic development and delivery of an integrated Communications and Marketing programme aligned with Te Ara Whai Hua – Path to Success, including shaping Wintec’s brand, narrative and market positioning.
· Drive innovative, evidence-based marketing and student recruitment activity to grow participation and revenue, using audience insights, market intelligence, data and performance measures to maximise impact.
· Lead Wintec’s internal and external communications, digital channels, media relationships and content, ensuring clear, consistent and engaging communication and effective management of reputation and reputational risk.
· Build strong strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including schools, industry, community, government, mana whenua and Waikato-Tainui, ensuring communications and campaigns reflect Te Ao Māori, tikanga and appropriate use of Te Reo Māori.
· Lead and develop the Communications and Marketing team, with responsibility for capability, performance, budget management, procurement and effective use of agencies, contractors and other resources.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
· Bachelor-level qualification in Communications, Marketing or a related field, or equivalent knowledge, with 6+ years’ senior communications and/or marketing experience.
· Leadership experience, including leading and developing multidisciplinary teams, with strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills.
· Proven success developing and delivering integrated communications and marketing strategies that strengthen brand and reputation, drive student recruitment and measurable growth, and translate organisational strategy into compelling narratives and campaigns.
· Strong corporate communications, media relations, issues and crisis management experience, supported by commercial and financial acumen, including budget, procurement and return-on-investment management, and strong digital, data and channel capability.
· Demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving te reo Māori and cultural capability, with experience advancing equity and prioritising the needs of priority learners.
