Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

Are you a natural connector with a passion for helping ākonga (students) find their career path and a flair for delivering memorable events?

Wintec is looking for an Engagement and Events Specialist to join our energetic and collaborative Marketing and Engagement team.

This is a full-time role focused on student recruitment, event delivery and community engagement. A significant part of the role involves nurturing relationships with wharekura and engaging confidently within tikanga Māori settings, so you’ll need to be comfortable and capable working in kaupapa Māori environments.

You’ll help attract future ākonga, support them through the application journey, build strong relationships with schools and communities, and bring the Wintec brand to life through engaging, on-the-ground activity.

Salary: $65,200–$67,800, depending on skills and experience.

Your Key Responsibilities

Student Recruitment

  • Represent Wintec at secondary schools, wharekura, careers expos and community events, showcasing study opportunities and encouraging future ākonga to apply.
  • Build and maintain relationships with careers advisors, school leaders, whānau and community organisations.
  • Follow up with prospective students and support them through their application journey.

Event Coordination and Delivery

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver recruitment events including open days, campus tours, school visits, expos and onboarding activities.
  • Manage event setup, logistics and pack-down.
  • Support institution-wide events as required.

What to Expect

This role involves travel throughout the Waikato region to visit schools and attend events, including some evenings and weekends. You’ll spend considerable time on your feet at expos, open days and campus tours.

A full NZ driver licence is essential. During peak recruitment periods, you’ll manage multiple deadlines and priorities while adapting to changing requirements and last-minute changes.

He kōrero mōu | About You

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • An outgoing, confident and collaborative personality, with a genuine interest in education and youth development.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to connect with individuals and groups of 50+.
  • The ability to juggle multiple priorities, remain calm under pressure and adapt to change.
  • Enthusiasm for connecting with people and motivating students to take the next step in their education journey.
  • A full NZ driver licence.

Experience in education, sales, recruitment or event delivery, or a qualification in Business, Marketing or a related field, will be an advantage.

We’re not looking for perfection – we’re looking for potential. We value the skills and experience people gain through whānau, community and mahi aroha (volunteering), as well as formal employment. If you have the skills we’re looking for, we encourage you to apply and tell us your story.
