Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role  

This is an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineering tradesperson to share their passion and knowledge with the next generation.  

This role is a part time, 0.6 FTE proportional role (22.5 hours per week). 

You can work a range of part time options, which will give you the flexibility to continue working in industry. 

The fulltime equivalent salary for this role will be between $77,500 to $96,800, dependent on skills and experience.  

Never taught before? Don’t worry, we are experts in supporting tradespeople to become great tertiary educators and will give you the tools to share your industry experience with learners, in engaging and meaningful ways. We have robust teaching and learning tools plus lots of experience in our team to support you developing these skills.  

The Academic Staff Member - Mechanical Engineering - is based in our Rotokauri Campus, reporting to the Team Manager and will be responsible for:

To be successful in this role you will have:  

  • A relevant trade qualification or higher in General Mechanical Engineering, with expertise in areas such as fabrication, machining, fitting, and welding.  
  • A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring all students are supported in their educational journey.   
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and applications.  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear, accessible manner  
  • Organisational skills to manage tutoring sessions and track student progress.  

Preferred:  

  • Familiarity with engineering software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MATLAB).
