Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role 

Are you passionate about Mechanical Engineering? We are looking for an enthusiastic person to inspire the next generation of Mechanical Engineers in a full-time academic position at our Centre for Engineering and Industrial Design (CEID). 

The appointing salary for this role will be between $74,400 and $98,000, dependent on skills and experience. 

The Academic Staff Member/Senior Academic Staff Member is based in our Centre for Engineering and Industrial Design (CEID)| Te Pūkenga at the Rotokauri Campus, reporting to the Team Manager and will be responsible for:   

  • Teaching New Zealand Diploma of Engineering and/or Bachelor of Engineering Technology face to face and/or distance classes 
  • Developing teaching resources and assessments 
  • Assessing students’ work 
  • Working closely and (with the skills and experience) coaching/mentoring colleagues who are teaching into the same programmes 
  • Liaising with colleagues in industry to encourage students’ innovation and creative thinking 
  • Enhancing the professional quality, direction, and research profile for the Mechanical Engineering Industry.

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • an outgoing personality and be comfortable working in a progressive team 
  • the knowledge and experience to lead the design and teaching of specific courses and develop resources and assessment 
  • a preparedness to work closely with colleagues also teaching on the same programmes 
  • connections with colleagues in the Mechanical Engineering industry, to provide wider learning opportunities and/or encourage students’ innovation and creative thinking 
  • the motivate to enhance the region’s professional quality while influencing the direction of your industry 
  • suitable qualifications and some current industrial experience in Mechanical Engineering.  Experience with Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, Solidworks/CAD, and Applied Computational Modelling would be an advantage  
  • the skills to complement our team of tutors in the delivery of the Level 6 New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) and the Level 7 Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Mechanical Engineering).
