Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role 

The Animal Technology Centre at Wintec are looking for a Technician to support their department while facilitating the learning of future people wishing to enter animal healthcare.  

The appointing salary for this role will be between $57,300 and $75,200, depending on skills and experience. 

The Technician is based at our Rotokauri Campus in Hamilton. Your role is to support kaimahi and ensure our facility is ready for course delivery and lab preparation. Other tasks would include inventory control, asset control, purchasing supplies to support labs and lessons, and cleaning duties within the Animal House, to name a few.  

Skills and experience that would be helpful: 

  • Theatre practice experience within a veterinary clinic.  
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety relevant to workshop practice.  
  • Demonstrated experience in handling a variety of equipment, tools, and materials, including dental machines, anesthetic machines and protocols.  
  • Animal organ knowledge.  
  • Bloods and animal theatre experience.  
  • Able to interact and be responsive to the needs of diverse groups, e.g. youth, Māori and Pasifika, and international students, academic staff members, and industry participants.  
  • An ability to undertake complex scheduled sessions in a planned and systematic manner within a learning or training environment.  
  • Demonstrates knowledge of health and safety requirements and responsibilities relevant to the position, with excellent practical skills and demonstrable experience of safe ways of working.  
  • Highly developed interpersonal and relationship skills to work with colleagues to resolve issues and meet agreed outcomes, exercising judgment in problem-solving. Proactive and responsive customer service attitude with a focus on internal and external customer needs.  
  • Understanding of budgeting, purchasing and relevant financial skills. Competent user of MS Office.

  • Qualified Veterinary Nurse and or experience.
